I have a buddy that does House shows here locally and he doesn't do that shit. I've literally watched him loading up each track in Serato and cueing up. So not everyone does it. I honestly didn't know this was a thing until now. When you said premix I thought you meant practicing your mix beforehand, just like a band practices their songs.

Oh that's dogshit. All the good DJ's I like perform live. Every mix I've ever released was a live recording of me one take. People really do this? When I saw a booth vid of Hedex playing live at EDC Las Vegas the pioneer CD-Js had playing tracks and he wasn't faking it. So it must be an American EDM thing. Not in DnB that shit wouldn't fly.

It's so bad out here, I worked in the industry for several years and all the big names are phoning it in, and the new guys think this kind of shit is acceptable when they get booked at clubs. It's so fucking over :pepe_depressed_dance:

The secret is learning to fix it on the fly when you do make a mistake so that the listener doesn't catch it. I don't see a problem with practicing your blends beforehand so when you do perform or record everything is pretty familiar and there are no surprises.

Exactly.
One time I was driving a young DJ to a music festival and having a conversation with his manager. The DJ politely asked us to stfu because he was mastering his premix otw to the venue and he needed to concentrate.
If I was paying hundreds of dollars to attend a festival, I would expect the artists to perform live music. I can listen to their cd for free at home.

I actually prefer DJs make mistakes because it shows they're doing it live. I'm old enough to remember when premixing was for faggots 🧐
