@fiore my take:
hollow knight IS anti patriarchal i think. the pale king is a negative figure who disposes of his children, each of which has worth. (the knight may not be perfect (the hollow knight wasnt either) but its the protagonist & is capable of love & affection)
throwing them in abyss is evil i think & is portrayed as such. i dont think "more control" would have helped the kingdom - i think he was a tyrant already who clung to power & decadence.

its also about a game about dysfunctional family relationships ....

but at the same time all the bug stuff puts it through an alien lens. u mentioned the nuclear family - i dont think that applies at All. the pale king has thousands of kids with a root being its too surrealistic to completely map human concepts on.

so idk if i would call it an explicitly gay game , yes there are gay characters or a dollposter knight , but its also foremost about exploration & combat. the lore is ALWAYS secondary. its not a character driven or relationship driven game, & its not *really* about exploration of identity, its about killing bugs, & more broadly, about healing the land from a curse (?).

i wont speculate on the morality of the radiance i dont remember all that bit & the lore is extra vague about the moths
also i feel like its an ESH situation
