   Right, in what can only be described as masochism, I’ve added a step-by-step guide to installing Kitten under Windows¹ (on Linux and macOS, installation is seamless and takes seconds):

   ¹ As my reward, fucking #Microsoft threw every dark pattern in the book at me to try and sign me up for a Microsoft account. Also, the screenshots have minor artifacts because their screenshot tool is crap.

     But please, if you’re using Windows out of choice, know that your decision to legitimise it doesn’t just affect you. Your operating system should be working for you and you alone, not for a trillion-dollar corporation trying to exploit you any way it can and willing to use every dark pattern in the book to do so.

     @filipesm Well, that’s why I’ve drawn the line at WSL 2.

     That bit of me that wants everyone to have the best possible experience they can wanted to write a whole separate installer for Windows, etc., but no, this is good enough. It’s still not a bad experience with the step-by-step guide, it just takes a few minutes instead of a few seconds. (’Cos, yeah, I also have to weigh the things you mention. It makes me miserable whenever I touch that toxic OS and I feel like I need a shower afterwards.)

     @Lobau Yep, all trillion-dollar corporations can get fucked as far as I’m concerned.

     But at least I don’t have to do anything special to support macOS. (If you want to run it on macOS, you just have to make sure you install a version of bash that wasn’t carved on a wall during the Stone Age.)

     I run Linux on my daily driver for a reason.

     @aral if you think Apple is too much better for things in the long run, I think that’s a bit mistaken too.

     They’ve gotten INCREDIBLY and increasingly developer hostile over the years. Sure it great that your project (cool project btw) is easier to deploy and stuff on macOS, but it doesn’t remove so many of the roadblocks and issues.

     I’ve been stuck on macOS for the last year, and coming back to a Linux personal computer feels like home.
