   why does windows feel like a fucking joke when compared to any other os

   i'm using fedora right now and it feels like a well-thought os, with a pretty consistent and cohesive design language and without corporate junk everywhere in the system

   windows feels as if it's just a bunch of patches on top of an obsolete piece of software

     Fedora is giga bloated but still way better than Windows

     I really don't like GNOME but to each their own. Mostly cuz I find the layout super awkward to use, that and it being pretty resource hungry. For example the app drawer with huge icons is shit that belongs on a tablet only UI, it has many bizarre design choices like that.

     @aroma a lot of what you enjoy is GNOME just being a good DE :D

     there *can* be some inconsistencies because of certain apps using the older GTK (the UI toolkit) version etc but overall it's real damn good and distributions do their best to patch what's needed

     I mean I got that Linux tism so such things tend to irk me. The regular ISO is like 2.4GB so it's not that bad tbf. Ubuntu is still bigger iirc lol.

     sure it has some apps preinstalled but I think most of them are useful

     I use Arch on desktop and Alpine on my servers. I'd use Alpine on desktop too but Arch has better package availability for a lot of desktop programs.

     I could make my own packages for the stuff not in Alpine repos but can't be bothered so I'm sticking to Arch on desktop

     @dushman @rail_ @aroma the thing with the app drawer is that is rather unnecessary. you can just open the overview, write the app you wanna open, and press enter.

     or open the overview, write what you need (a file, keywords for an emoji, math so the calculator works, etc)
