   it's always funny to see boomer DIY channels when they walk you through something, they have little interest in the cost even as a producer of content. A smart creator would consider their demographic, know a bit of the economic choices they make, but instead the old guys will say "you know instead of doing things this way, using crappy home depot hardware (cost: $120), you should do it the right way and spend $1,200 on this machine/hardware to do a real class act job!"

   as if the poor tard is doing these projects for fun in his retirement, and not desperately trying to save money and stave off suicide

     I can't remember it my memory was jogged by finding an old video where the guy is telling kids "instead of crappy two by fours, you should buy the best four by fours or two by twelves you can"

     Puts a point on how blessed they are economically when going 150% over budget is a non issue, the added cost is just nothing to them, more scraps for the pile (that will be thrown in a dumpster when his kids clean out his shop)

     @WashedOutGundamPilot The problem is, they cannot change perspective. As a contractor using top-tier material probably saves quite some time and time is money. And the expensive tools get utilized well.
     But a DIY guy buying a professional-tier power drill and using it once or twice a year is a retard.

     @quercus Contractors and pros aren't watching 7-minute tutorials, so it's like this niche is just well to do boomer guys puttering around in retirement, teaching their cohort how to putter around too.

     It's the usual rich guy thing, where they get a new hobby and buy the recommended, smart purchase that ends up being overkill because they never need the performance. They buy the $4000 treadmill on new year's day, the $11,000 3d printer to make greebles for their desk at work

     Good friends, because "oh I got one of those" is always nice to hear

     @WashedOutGundamPilot My brother in law was (at least until his divorce...) such a guy. Whatever he bought, it had to be the top thing on the market - regardless of actual need or utilization.
     Like buying an industrial grade floor cleaner for his home, that was so heavy that he was the only person able and willing to use it.

     At least he does 3d modeling, so it gets a little use. Sometimes that can trickle down to actual users

     @pepsi_man @quercus Or the dumpster. It's killing me to hear about liquidations lately, entire estates going into the trash because the boomers don't want to figure out what the niche weird collection is worth.

     Expensive, rare hardwoods, pokemoan cards, vintage toys, old computers, good pyrex have all gone straight to trash around here. Only after the fact when they whine about the cleaning process do they find out that was valuable to someone
