Microsoft Connected Experiences means they collect your Word and Excel files for AI training. Why not call it AI training? Why use such words? This is an unethical practice followed by a trillion-dollar corporation. How is this even legal? I am so glad that I don’t have Windows OS or MS office.

nixCraft 🐧 (nixcraft@mastodon.social)'s status on Sunday, 24-Nov-2024 12:17:10 JST nixCraft 🐧 And some of you laugh or call me paranoid when I say I use Linux, and it sometimes takes days to get wifi working on Linux, or I don’t trust the cloud, or get angry when I say billionaire brats and AI companies are predators. See, they don’t even have the guts to call “AI training” AI training because they know the negativity around that term. It is all a race to the bottom now; meanwhile, our politicians are super busy throwing mud around and working with billionaire fuckwits.

These third-rate companies trick people into giving away their personal data, and despite having trillions in assets, they can't afford to pay out for AI training. I'm really glad I don't work for them. I would rather choose a horrible death from illness and die than work for these companies.

I suspect that there are very few who work at these "AI Companies" and there is not guilt to be found among the handful of workers there...that is the whole point of these endeavors - to do away with actual people in the mix. The few who tend the power supply of the machines have no investment in the outcome or output of the sausage grinder they feed. -

This IS the real issue, the data from everybody is being sucked up to train AI regardless of if you want it to be or not! -

To anybody looking for an MS Office alternative but being forced to use MS Office for collaboration, I recommend OnlyOffice. The compatibility is really good. -

Don't want my yaoi ship smut fics used for ai slop lol
Windows is a need though, I'd sooner shoot myself then give up my awesome rog ally or or even 1 game. My hobbies are everything to me xD

"connected experiences" predate ChatGPT and Microsoft's large-scale investment into OpenAI, mainly for cross-device integration. Turned it off years ago when they first started to link it to "automation in the cloud". Their use of the function to handle AI training is a "logical" next step. So less a malicious marketing trick, more a complete failure to understand boundaries. After all: we are talking MS here, who thought Recall was a good idea... -
Infoseepage #StopGazaGenocide (infoseepage@mastodon.social)'s status on Sunday, 24-Nov-2024 19:15:01 JST Infoseepage #StopGazaGenocide @nixCraft When corporate documents get fed into this training system, the result is that eventually someone might write a query that produces segments of those documents verbatim. This is a data security nightmare and any enterprise that values it's data should seriously reevaluate whether Microsoft should be used as a vendor AT ALL due to their willingness to force such a completely non-sensible default.

American MBAers running this country in every industry and at every bureaucratic level, have no understanding whatsoever of the amount of power they are giving to a handful of companies with their choices of business software and web services, but especially to Microsoft.
none.

1. Be online enough to be aware of the issues
2. Feel this is a thing they can raise with management without repercussions
3. Persuade management to tell IT to change the settings and push that out via group policy.
