   I built my own computer from scratch just so I could install Arch #Linux. It took me three days to get the WiFi working, but the sense of accomplishment was totally worth it.

     Now I know the exact version number of every single package installed on my Arch Linux. I check for updates multiple times a day.

     I memorized all the important bash keyboard shortcuts. I can navigate my entire system without ever touching the mouse. I can write a bash script to automate any task, no matter how dull. I even wrote one to make my coffee in the morning. I have a strong preference for terminal-based text editors like Vim 🤓

     @nixCraft my 'alarm clock' is a cron job that launches a bash script that starts a music rando-playlist that plays via an FM transmitter to a clock radio that turns on to that station at the same time.

     it's been functioning this way for a decade now LOL

     @nixCraft I had a similar experience a year or so ago trying out Gentoo on a 12 year old laptop. The Wi-Fi driver was removed from the upstream linux-firmware package at some point. Turns out the awesome maintainers put it (and other drivers for the same family of chips) in its own package. That was an awesome feeling when the wi-fi started working on an otherwise e-waste laptop 😎

     @nixCraft I'm receiving a new laptop without OS in Monday from a Black Friday sale, and wanted to install Arch, dropping my current Manjaro lifestyle.
     I'm not sure your post inspires me or frightens me!
