@TrevorGoodchild Maybe we needed Harvey in Hollywood to screen out all these awful mid starlets.
-
Hollywood should've thought twice before getting rid of their quality control rapist.
-
@TrevorGoodchild They needed a more beautiful actress who didn't have a two pack per day voice. They should have used Léa Seydoux for Irulan. Or someone like her.
-
@CoQ_10 Fair point. In this age of hollywood mid and uggo actresses I'm just happy that she stayed White and blonde. Low expectations.
-
@TrevorGoodchild @judgedread I was impossible for the Baron to be cast as a pederast in today's political environment. But I did like the way he was portrayed. I thought Irulan was way off.
-
@CoQ_10 Interesting. Why? (Irulan, I mean)
-
@TrevorGoodchild He's got talent. I loved Arrival and Blade Runner 2049, Dune One and Two were a mixed bag. Paul was very faithful to the book in terms of age, which neither previous adaptation managed. Austin Butler killed as Feyd. But the dialogue and scenes don't have the energy of the Lynch version.
-
@judgedread Feyd-Rautha was an absolute upgrade from the novel version. Skarsgård's version of the Baron as a cold, stoic monster rather than a jovial pederast was also solid. Momoa was a decent Duncan Idaho. Jessica, Paul, Irulan and the Duke were well cast
Sadly, you're right about the dialogue being weak. Also significant character downgrades: Liet-Kynes, Thufir Hawat, Stilgar, CHANI (jfc)
-
@TrevorGoodchild Scifi miniseries version, which was cool. The costumes (in the first one)... not so much.
-
@judgedread Looking forward to Villeneuve's adaptation of Dune Messiah primarily for the Guild Navigators, he takes good concept art and runs with it (the Sardaukar and his version of the Baron from the first movie)
Edit: also, of course, how the Tleilaxu will be depicted
-
@DeezMistaReez Guild Heighliner.
-
@judgedread @DeezMistaReez Coincidentally what my banner is
-
@DeezMistaReez Not discussing capability, this is about design.
For example my first ranked TOS USS Enterprise is as a gnat next to an Imperial Star Destroyer.
It don't matter.
-
If it’s design, the Dreadnought Class would simply be the best minus cloaking abilities, although I’m sure they’ll eventually bring it in. The best AI money can buy, and for a ship that size for one person to operate is extremely impressive. I love the design of that big bitch from Dune with the big ass hole in the middle, too.
-
@Viking5050 Ah, at last a worthy nominee, though I'd give the edge to the upgraded Klingon Battlecruisers from one the the greatest science fiction scenes ever filmed, the opening of Star Trek The Motion Picture where three K'tinga class cruisers are digitized by V'Ger.
I saw a 70 MM presentation on this with John Dykstra. Good times, good times.

Wait. Where is the spacecraft from Independence Day Will Smith flies? Every Star Wars craft would be totally fucked up against that thing. And how about the one Starlord flies in Guardians of the Galaxy? I’d take take those both. The Enterprise is fucking amazing, but you have specify NCC-1701-D or abso-fucking-lately also list the one from Star Trek Into Darkness : Dreadnought-Class that Khan designed. That thing was fucking epic, and I want one in my garage…

@judgedread Runner Up - Klingon Bird-of-Prey ?
