I’m going to be honest: I still don’t understand the point of Threads. It feels just like IG. The discovery features are lacking. There’s little to no presence from the infosec, tech, IT, or FLOSS communities. No major government or company offers tech support using Threads either. Instead of creating a separate platform, Meta could have simply added link-sharing and text post options to IG. They went out of their way to build it, but it offers nothing special and their alog just sucks.

At the end of the day, it’s just a massive data harvesting platform.

Dakota Chambers (dcchambers@mastodon.social)'s status on Wednesday, 20-Nov-2024 11:46:46 JST Dakota Chambers @nixCraft I think the reason it feels so much like IG is because they used IG followers to seed the network. But it didn't really work because people use IG and Twitter/etc for different things.
And yeah the last of a tech community there makes it dead to me...
