@DrRyanSkelton @Kyonko802 u could play CCC instead
-
@SNEK @DrRyanSkelton melt is an awful person before character development though
-
@Kyonko802 @DrRyanSkelton yeah but she gets corrected by Shinji which is really fun
-
@SNEK @DrRyanSkelton @supersid333
Being abused and being a piece of shit aren't mutually exclusive. Extra Shinji didn't have to deal with Matou so he ended up being nicer than Night Shinji. It's more impressive that he was eight and still managed to accomplish what he did in CCC despite being afraid of dying when they went back to Near Side.

@supersid333 @DrRyanSkelton @Kyonko802 Shinji being a poor cocky kid in over his head has always been his thing
He's just not part of the antagonist team in Extra or the misery conga to trick you into liking Sakura
-
@SNEK @DrRyanSkelton @Kyonko802 I like Extra Shinji. He's just a poor cocky kid in way over his head
-
@SNEK @DrRyanSkelton @supersid333 You know now that you've brought that up most of the sakura faces falling in love makes sense since thats what ultimately saved Sakura in all three routes, even though it's indirectly in the other ones aside from hers.
Of course Melt is going to fall head over heels for Guda for being nice to her. She's literally built around the concept of doing so.
-
@supersid333 @DrRyanSkelton @Kyonko802 Yeah Shinji would've been an accomplished well off Chad Among Chads if he had been born in any family other than an Magus one.
That said it's really amazing he managed to out play Melt at age 8. But I guess Melt is less than 1 year old and a Sakura face who have conceptual weakness to Shinji so it makes sense
-
@SNEK @DrRyanSkelton @Kyonko802 Sorry the part I was trying to emphasize was the kid bit. Fucking 8 year old. Also the Shinji tank in CCC is funny
-
@SNEK @DrRyanSkelton @supersid333 I didn't like Sakura when I was younger but that changed as I grew older. I think it was because I found the first half of her route boring.
Rin still best girl though.
-
@Kyonko802 @DrRyanSkelton @supersid333 I love Sakura faces yet hate Sakura
It's vexing
-
@SNEK @DrRyanSkelton @supersid333 I don't feel like the route says Sakura didn't do anything. The main turning point in saving her from herself is that Shirou is acknowledging he has to give up his dream of protecting everyone in order to pull her out of the pit that zouken and she herself has buried herself in.
Melt goes through much the same kind of development in her journey towards being a better person.
Liz also did the same. I'd be kind of a hypocrite if I forgave liz but didn't forgive Sakura.
-
@Kyonko802 @DrRyanSkelton @supersid333 I feel like her backstory comes off as suspiciously emotionally manipulative to me. That and there's like, 3 other people on the same story who go through similar or more horrific experience as she and they don't decide to blow up the world for it. And there's this constant subtext that no matter whatever malicious thing Sakura does, she's a good person deep down. With BB, Melt, Kama the story and their disposition makes it very open that they're not good people but (You) can work tthrough this or they can change because of (You).
I think that is more honest than pretending Sakura dindu nuffin
-
@SNEK @DrRyanSkelton @supersid333 That was back before it was a bad thing though. Nasu never wrote it out of malice toward the concept of a hero, he was only saying that if you took it too far you would break yourself, and HF was meant to show that even Shirou had a line he wouldn't cross in pursuit of his dream, which is what ultimately saved him from getting the same outcome as Archer. That's also shown through you unlocking Saber's true ending where they're together in avalon only after you clear Heaven's Feel.
-
@Kyonko802 @DrRyanSkelton @supersid333 I think the difference is that at least Liz had to go through a redemption arc while Sakura was saved by someone else giving up on his dream.
Which granted, the story makes it Shirou's conviction on his dream a big crux of the narrative, but I've grown dla distaste for the concept of subverting the hero's journey.
-
@SNEK @DrRyanSkelton @supersid333 :kekw:
-
@Kyonko802 @DrRyanSkelton @supersid333 I get that
And really Nasu writing a story about a boy laying down his ideals to save the non-virgin girl he fell for makes me think that the schizo theory about Nasu being female might be true
