what happened? 🤨

@vitalis development of guns happened.
-
@MK2boogaloo @vitalis WWI breastplates could stop all handgun rounds minus maybe 9mm at close combat distance and were decent against rifles at long distances. Armor was never bad against guns, just expensive to outfit conscripts.
-
@nerthos @vitalis they're not fighting against an army with handguns. No one's been using handguns as the main weapon since the Medieval era.
-
@MK2boogaloo @vitalis Most rifle engagements were trench to trench, at a distance where breastplates and helms did ok. Within the trenches handguns and smgs as well as melee weapons were favoured because it's not easy to maneuver a rifle in there other than as a bayonet platform. Thus, the armor was somewhat functional.

@nerthos @vitalis handguns, smgs, and melee weapons would do well against any armor you have. Also if you're wearing one in the trenches, you would lose mobility and that would get you killed easily.
Not even counting about other factors like artilerry, supplying the armors, mobility, maintenance.
