@rlier23 :awoo_what: I can't understand how rhythm players get so good. I just can't develop these skills, I'm a failure at fighting games and rhythm games. :kek_pain:
-
@Immahnoob i am somewhat decent, used to be better but now im as the youths say WASHED.
i think the worst genres for me are shooters and fighting games
-
@rlier23 Shooters are one of my main games when it comes to skill. I have THE AIM, after all. Otherwise I'm very good at RTS's and I'd say I'm above-average at tactical games of all kinds.
I'm just shit at managing my inputs and doing weird ass fucking shit like half-crescents with analog sticks, or directional shit with analog sticks, that's why I'm just garbage at fighting games. Certain hack n slash like Devil May Cry do not fuck with me this way though, so I'm ok there.
While rhythm games just go too fast and no matter how much I try, I can't get good enough meaningfully, so I get bored.

@Immahnoob @rlier23 I sucked absolute ass at Dance Dance Revolution until something just clicked and worked my way up to comfortably clear heavy step charts.
I never cleared extreme charts though. You need to be a goddamn spider or something to clear that shit.
-
@Tamamo @rlier23 :kekw: I can take how shooters make you become some kind of reflex god, but I still feel in control there. The muscle memory on rhythm games instead feels like I'm memorizing shit.
And yeah, seeing people beat max difficulty shit on games like Beat Saber makes me think that some dudes are just insane. Fucking government assassins or something.

@Immahnoob @rlier23 With DDR is more pattern recognition. At first it looks like a jumble of arrows but at some point you start recognizing patterns and the dance steps associated with them.
That's the moment the game clicks and becomes more about building the physical stamina to keep up with the dance charts than deciphering arrows. :doge_laugh:
I honestly should dust off the ole DDR pad and hope it still works for some cardio workout. :puddicat_think:
-
@Tamamo @rlier23 Yeah, I'm sure I'm just retarded. I'm used to shooters since I was a kid, so I probably don't remember training my own reflexes from back then. I probably had the same impression then trying to learn to shoot at heads.
I honestly like the idea of working out with VR, but my room is still too small for it. :lain_sad: I really want to eventually buy myself a treadmill for VR when they get better and run and jump around The Radius. :akko_yay:
-
@Tamamo @Immahnoob @rlier23 Can confirm that once you get the flow of specific arrow combinations it's all about building the Stamina to keep up with them. I think I capped out at like 10/11 difficulty songs when I played DDR more extensively.
-
@Immahnoob @rlier23 Oh don't feel retarded. I looked like an absolute idiot when i started :guraKekw:
It's a matter of practice. The trick is less looking at the arrows and more listening to the beat.
If you want to give it a shot for cheap you track down foam dance pads for fairly cheap. Easy to store too.
The software is called Stepmania and there's no shortage of step charts out there.
Just make sure you grab Pad charts and not keyboards charts. I think i still have a fuck ton stored somewhere.

@Tamamo @supersid333 @rlier23 You guys are crazy. :fuuka_aah:
-
@supersid333 @Immahnoob @rlier23 Man i still remember clearing this song on Heavy for the first time. My heart nearly exploded but goddamn i was ecstatic. :vampy_yay:
-
@Tamamo @Immahnoob @rlier23 I generally only play at arcades, the thing that throws me off worst is when the song blends into the background noise. I can't hold to the beat at all without the sound guiding me lol.
-
@supersid333 @Immahnoob @rlier23 The only thing that often tripped me up were cross overs. If you fail to anticipate them and put you foot wrong you're boned.
