Trump isn't actually a "release valve." A lot of people were blackpilled and dropping out before MAGA, alt-right, etc. The right was steeling itself to have to endure Jeb Bush/Nikki Haley brown neoconservatism forever. Trump re-energized the right and made people believe they could actually get things they wanted. Hillary winning in 2016 would not have left us in a better place than we are now.
