   How do you fantasise your new gadget to be bought? If you imagine it to be the latest and greatest with hundreds and hundreds of ‘features’ then perhaps you have fallen prey to the big tech marketing. Even power users don’t use most of these so called features. You should think about your needs, how the new gadget would make a difference in your life and work flow and then make the purchase. There is no fun in buying a high end gadget and moulding yourself to it. It should be rather opposite.

     https://blog.privacyguides.org/2022/04/21/grapheneos-or-calyxos/ is a 3rd party article explaining some of the substantial differences between GrapheneOS and CalyxOS. It's a common misconception that they're similar. CalyxOS is far more similar to LineageOS than GrapheneOS. There are many other alternate OSes available.

     @ogtechtodon @techprofessor Compatibility with Android apps on GrapheneOS is also much different. GrapheneOS provides our sandboxed Google Play compatibility layer:

     Can run the vast majority of Play Store apps on GrapheneOS, but not CalyxOS with the problematic microG approach.

     @ogtechtodon @techprofessor GrapheneOS and CalyxOS are much different. GrapheneOS is a hardened OS with substantial privacy and security improvements:

     CalyxOS is not a hardened OS. It substantially reduces security. It recently went 2 months not shipping standard security patches.

     @techprofessor @GrapheneOS That's what I was thinking about myself getting a #Pixel6a or #Pixel5a and either use #GrapheneOS or #CalyxOS

     @ogtechtodon what a coincidence! there was a time in my life when I too have ran behind the latest and the greatest and wasted a lot of money. Now my purchase plan is fixed. I buy a used Pixel phone either budget 'a' series or a 'non pro' version and use it with @GrapheneOS. Its peace of mind!
