   The premoderns were closer to the harsh realities of life and death than pampered moderns, who shrink from those aspects of life that are not and cannot be chosen. Often they hide behind existentialism and blank slatism, or otherwise castigate themselves over their fortune/lament their misfortune. The human condition is neither totally free nor totally deterministic. Traditional religion deals with fixed authorities, fixed stations, and fixed duties. Christianity combines this with valuing free will and the capacity to choose between good and evil. Humans are not ethereal beings, we are bound to one time and place, It is necessary to be able to balance freedom and aspirations with such grounding.

     @ArdainianRight Ancient and premodern humans — and some modern humans like me — had a rather unique relationship with death. Comfortable even. Whether this is due to my lack of Christianity is another matter. The belief that death is scary, fearful, rather than an inevitable consequence of birth itself is rather modern, and dare I say naïve.

     @cyberanathema A Christian attitude towards death involves some anxiety about the Final Judgment, but there's still an understanding even behind the fear that it's another step on the journey of life that one needs to make peace with and not put all your stock in temporary worldly things. I think that attitude comes from a fallen Christian mindset, where your faith vanishes and there is no fluffy cloud heaven, only The Void. We live in an age which has neither the virtues of the ancient pagans nor those of classic Christianity.

     @cyberanathema If you're not hurting kids or actively poisoning the well of society I don't really care if you have some beliefs or lifestyle that I disagree with. I hate the "LGBTQ+ community," not necessarily gay people.

     @ArdainianRight I mean, I know your opinions of my life and beliefs already so I won't elaborate on that. But due to certain elements of my beliefs and life experience, I have a rather close and comfortable relationship with death. It's rather shocking to many people, some even say that I "fetishize it".

     @ArdainianRight I hate the LGBT community with a flaming passion. I'd never harm children, I've sworn a pact to protect the innocent and defend the defenseless. Breaking that pact is punishable by death.
