needed a name that meant something like "facade" or "falsehood" or "lie"
and the first two names that pop up are :sussyjew:

@ninja8tyu One suggestion I can offer is to try writing backwards in the planning stage. Start with where you want it to end and use that as a baseline to help establish character beats and moments leading up to it
-
i've managed to somewhat progress my story by trying to have characters get to know each other, but it ended up becoming a rant very early on...
i'll need to erase it, because that isn't as important to the story right now as it is getting to know each character and getting a good introduction before shitting things up and seeing how well they all persevere
i really have the edgy mindset down, i just can't grasp the wholesome optimistic mindset at all
it's like jumping off a cliff confident you'll fly despite seeing others go splat on the ground below it, and in spite of surviving, you've suffered numerous injuries, minor and severe, from attempting to fly
the fucked up thing is the fact that you've seen people fly, even if just for a little bit, before they too went splat, or genuine complete flight forever soaring in the skies, yet doing what they do doesn't really lead to flight
i don't understand how to write happiness and bonds at all...
-
i've finally written the prologue/prelude/whatever goes before the start of the story, now i gotta script out the general abstract of the rest of the story up until the very end
not sure if i wanna go all-out on a tree of decisions like a traditional visual novel, or focus heavily on the main story i want to tell, rather than worrying about having a type-moon visual novel done in under a month ideally
i guess the main story is more important, and decision trees should be better off done if i have the time and luxury to
don't be too fancy, just get it done... especially if i'm on a short lifeline...
-
i finished the prologue story character dynamics i want to write
honestly it's trauma flashbacks for me trying to write this part, but it's how i envision this story
-
i'm not sure how much a professional writer gets done in a day, but i think i'm doing fairly well
though i can't say i haven't been distracted often doing this shit
-
only wrote 300 more words in this thing
i wasn't able to concentrate at all...
aside from social media distractions, my workplace really wanted to give me one last "fuck you"
i'm supposed to write a "i quit" letter that i spent more time than i should've, considering it's just rehashing everything i've said already about this place and its people
i don't know why i even did, because i know it'll fall on deaf ears anyway, since i get blamed for never being a perfect puppet for everyone and the biggest expectation of change is on me, because we've given up on those fucking animals changing, and i am just one expendable man, not a massive stage four tumor family
what a big fucking way to ruin my mood and concentration. doesn't help that i'm writing a character who gets shitfucked by fake friends because she's retarded
all i remember are the bad memories, and a lot of the good ones i've had elude me every time this happens, so i can't even write the happy parts without feeling like i'm retarded for trusting anyone, as if pursuing joy and life satisfaction with and involving others is inherently stupid and even thinking about it makes me stupid and everyone who looks at me knows i'm stupid
sure got the right experience to write the second part of my story, but not the beginning part, which i have to write right now...
-
@ninja8tyu I mean, needing a place to sleep and food to eat is more then enough reason for someone to rely on a random smuck, especially if one of the two is supposed to be the blind optimist.
It generally sounds like you're writing a story where both people are stuggling with something that requires the others help to properly deal with, but that previous traumas leave them both unable to actually help each other until the right level of trust exists.
-
@supersid333 well i do have the general vague outline in my head, it's just that none of these characters are normal in the head or situation...
story spoilers i suppose, but it is fairly early on, so...
an artificial super-genius escapes from an evil organization, and lacks everything needed to get a job, like id, ssn, job history, references, and so on that a job would refuse someone for (among other things), alongside general world experience due to being locked in a laboratory all her life up until recently
the fact she has to rely a random schmuck feels like a stretch, but isn't impossible, but the problem is how to i get them both to develop as characters and understand each other in at least one aspect that slowly moves toward the story ultimatum?
-
@ninja8tyu @supersid333 Is it a VN where you have choices or is it linear? If it's linear, just use what you just said, my nigga. They need each other, right? Well, have them go hungry for a while, suddenly, they'll start to want to interact with each other, and through that, they'll bond.
The bonding doesn't have to happen immediately, but you can show small details of how they're slowly changing towards each other.
I think the exact type of relationship you're showing here was done in The Devil on G-String.
-
@supersid333 pretty much, the question is how do i push two people with trust issues to trust each other
my current solution is to just have the girl take the initiative because she's still clueless about the world and still has some notion that she can ask of others, but...
the random schmuck sucks at reading others and caring for them
i don't want to make her the one who takes the initiative all the time, because it kinda contradicts her anxieties and experiences if she's so confident of getting what she wants, but the guy also isn't either because he's skeptical of the permitted squatter, even if he made the initiative to help her
-
@ninja8tyu @supersid333 Also, Sid's advice is good.
-
@supersid333 @ninja8tyu Yeah, of course, but it's one VN that came to mind immediately, meaning it had enough of a similar impression for me to mention it.
Classroom of the Elite is also a good one, albeit more focused on "using each other" than bonding, honestly.
-
@Immahnoob @ninja8tyu Probably in more then just that. Originality is overrated as long as you write it well lol.
-
@ninja8tyu As much as I'd hate to say it, characters who serve no purpose to the plot deserve the axe. When it comes to writing I wholeheartedly believe that characters are there to serve a role in the story first and foremost. If they're not doing that there isn't a point to introducing them. That's just me an my utilitarian thoughts on writing though, fluff is fine in small doses.

i managed to find a use for one of the characters i kinda just threw in there, now i just need to somehow fit in my next character...
i haphazardly placed a chimera girl near the mountains as her area of stay, but i haven't given much thought to her personality, what value she'll bring, aside from having superpowers
my setting is a mix of sci-fi and fantasy in the normal world, since i felt like it would give me more freedom to tell the story i wanted to, but the problem is, do i get rid of her since she isn't providing any use, continue to try to find a use for her, or something else...
-
i'm at the "day 2" part of my visual novel, and now i need to write the other characters (which is kinda pointless because they're not romantic interests, but i included them to help me progress the plot)
unfortunately i can't think of much of a use for the other two characters, and i can't exactly jump the gun to where i need the story to get to
plus, every story i've watched and am currently watching has some amount of padding, including "9 -nine-" which i can't tell how it makes scenes that should be boring
i might have to work ahead in some ways, but still...
-
i then tried to write the exact opposite but that just really skips to the ending... how do writers write people becoming friends? how do complete strangers become friends?
i think i should sleep... i'm running on nothing right now... i got distracted by gaming with friends and youtube shit...
i'm not gonna make it, am i...
-
i forgot that i wanted to add sex to this game, but i know steam hates lolis and sex
not sure how to write around the fact some of the character development happens during and because of it, nor how to add patches to the game to allow for it
i haven't reached that point yet, but it's gonna affect whether or not i write it to begin with
-
i ended up scripting a major point in the story on day 2...
i was gonna lampshade how quickly the relationship progressed, but if i don't give them enough time before this event, the protagonist despite being a super genius looks like a vapid retard and her love interest a cock sucking dickhead (which i don't actually mind too much given his story arc), alongside the story feeling stupid
the problem is that this situation needs more trust built upon them, and also time to escalate to this situation to begin with, instead of happening two days right after the story begins, so i decided to move this part of the story into the future, because it's scripted well enough on its own that i don't need to worry about it until i get to that point
thing is, i still need to somehow reach that level of trust realistically and reasonably...
writing padding and calm everyday life is my greatest weak point... especially when i have to construct it from nothing within in the world of the story...
