@David Tough choices all around... there are so many good ones... but Roxanne pic on OP is a great choice. :zt_nod: There's a reply for "Asuka" which I believe is NGE Asuka, and I think a lot of people would agree. At first I wasn't sure who to pick... but then I remembered: Lady J from Valkyrie Drive. :vajra_smug: I know she has her partner Rain but let's pretend this could break some amount of canon to satisfy the relationship to an answerer.
Also, it's pretty interesting going through these replies. To me, just because a situation arises where a girl would be "my slave" doesn't mean she wouldn't be treated well. Could be like in this manga where MC obtains Roxanne but he isn't mean to her. In fact he treats her extremely well... almost like a partner (hint hint). A lot of manga stories (not exclusively isekai) do this to fulfill a savior fantasy, but "slave" definitely carries a negative connotation (especially to most people nowadays). Kinda understandable that these people would have a negative reaction, buuut I don't think they fully grasp the kind of idea being conveyed here. I think most of them see a manga/anime like Isekai Meikyuu and think it's nothing but degenerate trash with an SM fetish built in, but there's a mature relationship built between MC and Roxanne (honestly I'm tired of harems; more than one girl dilutes character relationships sometimes). Roxanne being a slave is really nothing more than a plot device. Plus, from what I remember reading, the story was actually pretty meh... I may have to reread it.
Speaking of, a slave situation is a serviceable storytelling device for character relationship purposes. Girl (often spoils of war) gets captured into slavery, guy buys her later (abuse may or may not happen), slowly forms bond with her, liberates her from her previous oppressors, and the two may find love or the guy frees her for her to go her own ways. It's like that short manga of the dude that saves an elf slave and she eventually gets healed, learns to love, and becomes MC's wife. Not a bad fantasy to write about. ...and then there are "slaves" like Morgianna from Magi... lol... I forgot how she ended up getting captured anyway, seeing as how she could just punt everyone's heads off without breaking a sweat.
Well, this was may more of a response than necessary. lol. Also also this reply here :kekw:
@Minty Well that's why I elaborated that there's another angle to approach this whole slavery thing because (at least in anime/manga) the status of slave is usually a plot device or servicing as in-name-only. At some point she'd leave that slave status and become wife (after extensive bonding and whatnot), buuut you get the idea.
That's the angle I take anyway, since I'm a romantic. Maybe OP really means to have as a toy. I don't know. @David
@Cayhr@David Wanting an exclusive partner that you have taught to be perfect for you. Isn't that what every man wants? Isn't that part of why we look for purity and exclusivity?
"Slavery" in this case just makes it easier. You don't need "trust", but what makes it sweeter is that it'll eventually lead there because the power of your character will move them. Pure escapism. :heh:
@Immahnoob In these isekai, the collar is just what binds the slave to the master (usually MC). It then sets the scenario and creates the conflict for the viewer: how do the now stuck-together characters get along? The development is what people that enjoy these stories look for. It can then blossom into a romance, which is the extra sweet cherry on top. The Twitter normies aren't anime and manga fans, thus they don't understand this.
While technically not slavery (circumstance is similar), "The Apothecary Will Make This Battered Elf Happy" is one of my favorites. :cat_blush: @David
@Cayhr@David I know, I've read/watched enough of them. :ina_nod: Honestly though, it's just a slightly more extreme version of what happened in the past. It's not like we had slaves, but they certainly were under some very specific rules otherwise they wouldn't be marriage material and they had to rely on their partner. :nep_happy:
"The Apothecary Will Make This Battered Elf Happy" is actually a bit more classical in the way the romance developed since it's the usual damsel in distress. What man doesn't want their hard work and love to be repaid? It's why I find it ridiculous how nowadays we hear that somehow women shouldn't give back anything because we're not entitled to anything. :wat:
@Immahnoob > It's why I find it ridiculous how nowadays we hear that somehow women shouldn't give back anything because we're not entitled to anything Yeah it's some real bullshit. We literally write and indulge in stories about men giving it their all to become the best men they can be, and they are rewarded with a woman simply putting offering her loyalty and gratitude.
Kinda ironic, right? How modern media sentiments state that men are superficial pigs that *just* want women with hot bodies? When really, men just want their hard work appreciated, even if they only receive words and praise in return. Turns out, it's not the man that is superficial... @David
