Annoying edge case: having to pick a new name that's the same length as your deadname, so it can be patched into ROMs without changing offsets.

So I'm not taking my own advice

I have at least one script credited to a 16 character name, so I could always patch in:
"FOONE TURING____" -
Tim 🎮 (timixretroplays@digipres.club)'s status on Friday, 25-Oct-2024 09:10:11 JST Tim 🎮 @foone there is a typo in the main binary in Mechwarrior 1 from 1989 where a particular battlemech is called the "PHONIX HAWK". Correcting it causes the game to freeze when loading the menu on-planet. I don't understand it because the phoenix hawk is not the only 'mech with a 12 letter name.
I don't know if it shipped like that or if it's part of the copy protection crack and is the reason behind the game auto-passing levels if you put a friendly mechwarrior in one of those 'mechs.

1. Do you really think I'd be hanging out in 2024?
2. I've got a long todo list if I ever do get a time machine, and "fix my names" is barely on it -
