is FTDI too evil to put on a MNT Reform motherboard? need a well supported quad (actually just triple) USB UART chip that can handle 1.5mbit on two of the UARTs.

When last I played with such things Silicon Labs had some good chips, but I never tested them to that speed. -
minute (mntmn@mastodon.social)'s status on Wednesday, 23-Oct-2024 22:31:44 JST minute thanks for all the input, after checking all the (pretty complex/big/expensive) options i settled on CY7C65215-32LTXI and a DIP switch to select on of two UARTs that can have the console depending on the chosen CPU module (most use UART 1, but on some like BPi CM4 and 8mplus i had to use UART 2).
also this is the next level of "don't accidentally swap RX/TX!"

I have some empathy for the people at ftdi. They invented something cool and built a company on that cool idea. The idea was copied and they sought to retain their rights to the idea. If I put myself in their shoes I would take some steps to do that too (not necessarily the same steps). The law is on their side it's just too hard to enforce. -
SuperIlu (dec_hl@mastodon.social)'s status on Thursday, 24-Oct-2024 02:52:11 JST SuperIlu @mntmn implement an A20 gate and switch it with one of the GPIOs? 🤡 🤣
