   Bandai Namco released an awful game, Unknown 9: Awakening, and one can tell just by the title that it was going to be terrible. Title physiognomy is real, but what is unreal to me is that Bandai Namco saw the disasters that were Dustborn, Redfall, Concord and all the other gay-people-of-colour shlock and decided to release this anyway.

   That's one way to ruin your legitimacy.

     The handy-holdiness, the needless exposition, are symptoms of a much larger problem with Japanese media: it is becoming completely subsumed by a fanbase of retards who need everything told to them, never shown and who need more flash and distractions over substance and discovery. Nothing can ever be made simple or laid bare through just enjoying the media at your own pace or investing, now everything must be explained to the viewer, characters have to be designed around their alignment (the bad guy's name was Chaos, for God's sakes) and all have to be archtypes now.
     
     Why? Because this is who the Japanese media makers pander to now. The lowest common denominator of fan. If it doesn't have guts, gore, sex appeal or over-explanation, it is simply too complicated for the person whose investment only goes so far as to be cool on Twitter. Fans of the fanbase who want to be seen doing weeby things, instead of just doing weeby things.
     
     This is a problem.

     They are firing people en masse. The best game they released recently was Gundam Breaker 4 and even that was average.

     Gundam Breaker IV was mid to say the very best of it. The story and characters weren't expected to be great but it was just more trope-laden Japanese anime expectoration. We could have done without a lot of the nonsense that clearly came at the expense of more development in things like the gameplay.

     Bandai Namco just cannot hack it without Souls titles, and unfortunately those have been done to death, internally and externally.

     @Owl @Goalkeeper People need to like this post more, Owl is not wrong about the Gunpla Dress-Up Simulator. As the "MC/Player", you literally start off broken and only break the world MORE as the story progressess.
     
     Even if you FAIL a match in story mode, there's no punishment for being bad. I failed a few only because I never upgraded my parts due to intentional ignoring all of the hand-holding instructions.
     
     ...for fucks sake even Domon Kasshu got his ass kicked more and grew as a character for it.

     @Owl @Goalkeeper That is the reason why I ended up returning Marvel vs Capcom: infinite and Pokemon: Shield.
     
     They were TOO DAMN EASY. There was no reason to keep going after completing the main story because it was BORING.

     I tried Sonic Frontiers.
     The interruptions, exposition and control explanations actually made me so annoyed that I turned the game off and refunded it instantly. It was probably, singlehandedly the fastest turnaround time I have ever gone from buying a game, booting it up, shutting it down and refunding it ever.
     
     Gone are the days of instinctual, innovative controls. Now just have everything explained to you. And then have the action paused so the game's mechanics can be explained to you.
