yesterday I resumed work on the new MNT Reform motherboard version. because we need to make a new batch, I'm using the opportunity to modernize some things (1/2):
—revert usb hub back to tusb8041 (from chip crisis' tusb8040)
—pcie x4 lanes on m.2 slot (from x1)
—pcie clock chip for gen3 support
—fix headphone jack detect
—replace the aging TI "simple switchers" for 5v, 3v3 rails with the ones from reform next
—replace barrel jack with usb-c pd, firmwareless TI chip. add power header pads/tht

—expose serial console(s) via usb-uarts on that same usb-c port
—throttle ltc4020 max current a bit
—ltc4020 and ltc6803-4 stay for now, too risky to change atm
—unsure: replace "hack the planet" dupont with something like qwiic i2c? and a power button connector?opinions?

Graham Sutherland / Polynomial (gsuberland@chaos.social)'s status on Saturday, 19-Oct-2024 21:40:59 JST Graham Sutherland / Polynomial @mntmn is the dupont something many end-users are already set up and working with? changing the connector to one where they need to buy an additional cable might be annoying if that's the case. especially if you then need to document "on rev X we changed it for this other connector, you need to check which you need".
if it's not something folks are really using much, then switching to a nicer connector should be ok.

Realleif (realleif@social.sdfeu.org)'s status on Saturday, 19-Oct-2024 23:27:43 JST Realleif @mntmn The gitlab repo for the mnt-reform-rk3588-som already stated that the M.2 slot will be PCIe 3.0x4. Will customers who ordered a RCORE Reform (like me) receive this new main board? I think the USB-PD charging is a nice addition.

Min1123 (min1123@allthingstech.social)'s status on Sunday, 20-Oct-2024 01:32:43 JST Min1123 @mntmn the serial changes, do these mean a way to connect over usb-c for the u-boot? If not, I think an external facing port for u-boot would be useful. On my original CPU module, I tried a few flavors of OS, but on my A311D, I’ve stuck to Debian with your repos, it’s easier than trying to figure out what I messed up on with the u-boot TTL serial headers being right in the middle of the machine. Also, some easy way to connect for programming the keyboard and mouse externally.
