In terms of forks there was Rebased (dead since the vegan prefers sha256 hashes to human-readable names) and there's Ackoma (federation-breaking trannies), so staying on upstream makes the most sense unless someone figures out how to migrate to Mitra or something without losing keys, posts and followers.
