   @pixelfed And also, I feel proud to not only build @pixelfed in a way that respects Instagram (and its trademarks, etc) but also to be able to work with their developers on federation support (even though I need to do some work on my side)

   It's a tricky situation, and ultimately, the ability to put my ego aside for the benefit of the @pixelfed community is what really matters, on both sides.

   Meta has shareholders.

   Pixelfed doesn't.

   Meaning you have just as much power to make change as me

     I wouldn't be here, spending 6+ years building @pixelfed if I ever felt threatened by Meta/Instagram

     They have a reputation for cloning their competitors, and I respect that

     I'm building this for the real ones, like you

     That being said, as much as I dislike Meta, I feel that their presence is a net benefit as they bring so many people to the fediverse who otherwise wouldn't be here

     And I'm okay with that because I really believe in the principles of the fediverse
