     weird language inconsistency I've been thinking about this morning
     
     Xing on the road means crossing. So X is a cross-, which, yeah, the letter looks like a cross.
     
     X also means "Christ" as in xmas. Ok, Christ and cross sound connected.
     
     Xtal in electronics is just shorter "crystal". Fine, cross-, christ-, crys-, all look a bit similar.
     
     But also Xfer is a transfer, so the letter X also means trans-. Both trans- and cross- prefixes have similar meaning.
