   Just look at all my GAO poasting. This blurb about readiness ABSOLUTELY falls in line with what the accountability office sees almost across the board. Every time, from legacy aircraft to modern F-35s, the dishonest units magically make 75% within 2%, while the “underperformers” hover from 35-45%.

   In all likelihood, they’re gaming the system for 75 with all the usual bureaucrat magic. Until now, that hasn’t mattered a whole lot. We only sent the boys up against shit cookie bakers and opium farmers with small arms, never an actual organized, layered force with similar capabilities.

   This is why it pisses me off when fat yankees mock the russian army. Every problem they have, we have in our own distinctly american flavor. Sure, the officers aren’t selling equipment out the back of a suburban after work, but their fighters don’t cost 4 trillion dollars to spend 15 years in IOC phase when it should scarcely last 2

     (remember it was supposed to be the next-gen, multi service F-16. A single engine, cheaper alternative to the F-22. The 22 is like the F-15, a super high-spec halo fighter, while the 35 was the affordable grunt. Funny how that didn’t come to pass. Oh, and we canceled the 22 to make more room in the budget for overpriced 35s. uh oh! )

     Our Air Force probably peaked in the 90s or early 2000s if not sooner. The only thing keeping us at the top is the fact that we were so far ahead of everyone else that they're just now starting to close the gap.
     
     They have too many diversity hires and too many overpriced aircraft now it seems. I still don't see why they want to kill off the A-10 without having a good replacement. A drone can launch a missile or two but the sights and sounds of the Warthog has kept many enemy fighters holed up somewhere while it was on station. I've heard the 30mm in person and it'd scare the shit out of me if I was on the other end. Sounds like a mix between tearing paper and a chainsaw except the chainsaw is spitting depleted uranium rounds.

     @GabeLakmann @n8 As cool as it is I wanna see all the A-10’s turned into civilian surplus aircraft and gate keepers already. The country doesn’t deserve them, and they’re overkill for spooking 12-yo opium addicts on camels. It’s only gonna hurt more if we have to see them get blown up by even a 2nd world military.

     @WashedOutGundamPilot @n8 Not to mention that the Chinese stole all the technical data and built their own stealth fighter the J-20. They are already fielding the thing and are about to ramp up production.

     @Innsmouth_Mayor @n8 Stole, or as rumor has it - allowed to get it from the israeli’s via “unsecured” IT infrastructure. Wonderful allies, those guys.

     They also sent advisors over to help with the J-10, IIRC. Not long after the US trained them on the F-16 and helped them get THAT up and running

     I've always liked that airframe even though I was into fighters. The fact that they used input from Hans-Ulrich Rudel when designing and building it only makes it that much cooler.

     @CrushBead @n8 Well, you could technically say they do it a bit with their free budget. Some units have a good chunk to blow on discretionary stuff.

     Hell, where do all those KAC sights from the USMC come from? Those are walking out the door somehow, and they’re supposed to be government property
