   I always forget about my gemini pod. Really gemini altogether although I think it's a cool idea. What would be cooler is if it just took markdown.

     @Moon might not be a bad idea. I love markdown and if you wanted to write a site for a markdown compatible gemini and http there are loads of markdown parsers our there.
     
     I really like Gemini's trust on first use for SSL certs. Way better than needing certificate authorities.

     @xjix @Moon It's not that I have any problem with gemtext necessarliy, but it's something specific that is giong to limit adoption and while it doesn't necessarily make anything less portable it limits expression in needless ways. If you supported basic markdown (no images) and did everything else gemini did (leaving it up to the client to determine how to parse the markdown of course) I think it would have a better shot of being picked up.

     some clients do support markdown, but gemtext is just way easier to parse and lex.

     adoption is somewhat irrelevant to the goals of gemini. it exists, some people use it. that's good enough.

     @xjix @Moon that's fair. I just would like if there were maybe a bit more content around, but I haven't browsed in a little while so who knows. I don't think it needs "www" levels of adoption or anything but the simplicity is appealing and it would be cool to be able to go there to look for information instead of just to meddle with this interesting space (not that that's a bad thing). When I first started poking around I found a few anarchists who posted a few times, but it seems like that's how it goes and then a pod is forgotten.

     i've found it helpful to cross host, using a gemini to web proxy that i wrote, so i don't neglect my capsule. its a lot of buy-in, but i'm also slightly fanatical about gemini. something about it really speaks to me. having more options for gemini+titan wiki engines could potentially help, i do wish i could just create and edit pages on my phone directly in lagrange.
     
     maybe i'll figure that one out for the next version of my memex.

     @xjix @Moon see thats what I mean. If you could just write markdown and didn't need to transform it to serve there are markdown editors and parsers in every language for every platform.

     @xjix @Moon it's literally my only complaint, and it's not even that I find gemtext unusable or unfriendly just simply it's already pretty close to markdown and if it were just markdown gemini would be more accessible to everyone immediately. Cross posting would be simply rendering the markdown on a static javascript enabled webpage or generating static html using one of the hundreds of markdown parsers out there.

     @xjix @Moon solving the problems with sed is brilliant. I am huge fan of sed. I used to use it more than I do now. I've owned sed.ninja for a bit although these days I feel like I fallback to perl most of the time when it's something I can do with either because I can just get there quicker.
     
     My gemini capsule is actually at gemini://gemini.sed.ninja/ although you won't find much sed or really much of anything on there. I started writing a couple weeks back and never finished.

     @am@decept.org @Moon@shitposter.club @thatguyoverthere@shitposter.club at some point, i just decided that i was going to use gemini for everything and allow its limits to partly define the aesthetic and structure of my sites. there may be other ways to approach it, but this is the one that worked for me.
