   git-annex external remote tree export protocol be like

   > EXPORT <remote name with spaces>
   > <somecommand> <hash> <local name with spaces>
   < <somecommand>-SUCCESS <hash>

   except sometimes it forgets to send EXPORT?

   And then is surprised I give it the same file instead of the one it asked for, judging by the hash?

   wtf?
