   Does anyone know why Mastodon has a limitation on what dimensions your images and videos can be? It’s such an annoying restriction. (Also, it can’t handle webm videos created by @GNOME’s screenshot tool.)

   (Not sure if this is a Mastodon web client restriction or Mastodon restriction.)

     @aral i’m not sure, but my guess is to create a consistent reading/viewing experience across clients. for example, to prevent people from uploading vertically formatted media into landscape designed spaces. because OMG that is the worst! l

     @awoodsnet That’s a presentation issue. Client should handle it best it can instead of setting arbitrary limits based on broadcast media.

     I mean uploading to a third-party site and embedding that is an option but it’s a ridiculous workflow.
