   @TriptychTwinsRidesAgain @LaylaAlexandrovna that is happening EVERYWHERE. I really beat the odds and I mean that, getting into affordable housing that is brand new. It's like the ONLY ONE that is brand new and it's in a super quiet area next to the University farms and a lovely residential district on the right side of the city, too.

     @LaylaAlexandrovna @Sherri_Ingrey I don't eat out very often. I've had the occasional take-out but mostly cook my own food. A friend and I tried a monthly roast meet-up at local pubs, but even that was getting expensive so we've not done it for months.

     @TriptychTwinsRidesAgain @LaylaAlexandrovna I join my son and daughter in common law once or twice a month, he brings the wine from his work, and it's always cheap, like $20. I get two meals out of the Vietnamese place.

     @Sherri_Ingrey @LaylaAlexandrovna The middoe-class press keep writing about how boho and up and coming this place is, but forget to mention that most people are struggling to pay their bills and there's a lack of affordable rentals due to places being used as Airbnbs

     @TriptychTwinsRidesAgain That's like my neighbourhood. It used to be an affordable place for restaurants and groceries. Then the Martha Stewart fans moved in and it's got more and more expensive since.
     
     Locals like me can barely afford to eat around here but the east side has got that old-timey Italian/hippie/LGB+ flair that westsiders like to 'slum' in.

     @LaylaAlexandrovna @TriptychTwinsRidesAgain I consider myself very lucky, we have three very affordable restos near me, all highly rated, that cater to celiacs! The best rated fish ad chip place in the city, one Vietnamese and one Korean. There's a Thai one as well, but it's costy (as every Thai place I have ever been is). The foodie places are scattered all over the city.

     @Sherri_Ingrey @TriptychTwinsRidesAgain There's a couple not too badly priced Thai restaurants near here and then a super expensive one. After having lived in Thailand so long and then living on my own versions of Thai food, I can't say I'm that keen on it for the past few years.
     
     There IS a reasonable pubstyle Japanese rest a couple of blocks away and that's where I go for anything but sandwiches. Oh and there's an even more reasonable Japanese deli not far from here.
     
     No, despite living in Japan for 8 yrs, I never grew fond of sushi or sashimi!
