   So we've heard the old folks talking about signing and reading ALL their junk mail as if that's a mechanism to win the old Publishers Clearing House boomer scam lottery, and we're completely confused.

   Is that an actual mechanism or did someone just brilliantly teach the boomers to scrutinize each character printed in their junk mail in order to win millions?

     The way it was said was very fleeting, where someone said "well of course we sign and date all our junk mail, you never know when the PCH is coming by"

     and all the other old boomers/xers nodded knowingly like "ah, of course"

     @WashedOutGundamPilot Banks will occasionally send you "put money in here and we will give you X bonus" messages that look like a scam, but they are legit - if finicky about it. It generally beats the stock market.
     
     The assumption is that most people won't read the fine print, or will forget, or will take the money but then just leave it in the bank at 0.01 percent interest long enough that the bank makes their money back.
