   A fair amount of Dutch people have silly sounding surnames because they didn't have fixed surnames until the 19th Century when Napoleon invaded and occupied the Netherlands. The French occupation started demanding they have fixed surnames for record keeping instead of being Jan from Amsterdam, so a lot of them chose absurd names like Spring in 't Veld (jumps in the field) just to troll the authorities. I'm thinking that if this happened today that 300 years from now there'd be guys named "Caleb Niggerbeater" walking around.
