     @rejectwreck The scars of WW1 were still fresh with everyone, which meant whoever took over from Chamberlain would be responsible for sending another generation of British men to their deaths or alternatively be the one who had to sign a humiliating peace with Germany. Churchill was by no means a popular figure at this time and nobody else wanted a job that might finish them socially and politically.
