   One of big advantages of using BSD's is they have largely retained a lot of the traditional concepts, practices and utilities of original UNIX and the culture around it.
   
   Whereas Linux has largely abandoned a lot of these things (with the exception of slackware, void, etc) and is no longer recognizable in a lot of aspects. :dude_smug:

     illumos too is like that, though instead of original UNIX it's "Solaris 10/11" (which is SysV based).

     @vixn @MischievousTomato @charlie_root until you try running programs made before 2010 and you end up with varying degrees of them either not working or your system going straight to hell, wine is unironically better for a lot of stuff (including many of my favorite games of all time) and bsds themselves are basically the least bad unixen (isn't saying much but at the same time it actually says a lot)

     @charlie_root @vixn from what i saw, even gaming is improving on the bsd land. and honestly, im happy on nixOS, but I'm still envious of the distinction bsds have between system packages and 3rd party stuff. Prevents shit from breaking unlike lunix.

     @charlie_root @vixn I am the kind of guy that could learn how to use a bsd, but i wont lie and not say it doesnt do some things that i need it to do. but honestly, for a lot of stuff it seems to just work, granted if your hw is supported well. And funnily enough it has a phat software collection due to ports.

     Just because you had a skill issue doesn't mean you speak for the rest of BSD. The admin of this instance and I daily drive OpenBSD and it works perfectly well and is very well engineered. I built an entire monetized YouTube channel on tech content made with OpenBSD and FOSS tools. Several users here daily drive FreeBSD, and in some ways it out performs Linux. You don't know what you're talking about, you are a fool.
