@PurpCat @Inginsub @cassidyclown @kirby Anni is open regs....
-
@cassidyclown @Inginsub @kirby the problem with open regs is the classic admin problem
Only certain kinds of people admin big sites just like how only certain types end up as mall cops.
So the only instances with open regs are shit like mastodon.social
-
@kirby we need fresh blood, this place has grown too incestuous
-
@Inginsub @kirby I agree wholeheartedly but at this point I wish new new instances would pop up with open regs. Right before the creamqueen fed incident I was going to add a bunch of logging/monitoring but now I don't feel comfortable doing that. I also don't think it's a good idea to have open regs without logging at our size and given how much of a dead beat janny I tend to be. Maybe if I self-host (unlikely unless I move country) or move server to something historically trustworthy I could have logging and open regs.
-
@Inginsub yeah I know that's why I said they're trying lol
-
@kirby you need to log in to see the feed and the regs are closed :dementia:

@dcc @Inginsub @cassidyclown @kirby Just because one instance doesn't mean a lot are.
The whole thing with fedi now is that literally all the big instances on this side, that someone might care about, have locked down regs for obvious reasons. They don't want to deal with the latest Alex Linder, or spam flood attack, or angsty fedposter, or nonce, etc.
Wanna know who doesn't lock down regs? That's right, mastodon.social.
You either need a mental illness like Josh or to have the cravings of power a janny had to make an open reg instance in cy + 9.
-
@PurpCat @dcc @Inginsub @kirby this is exactly the problem that federation is supposed to solve except that users don't want to deal with the inevitably ephemeral nature of small/new instances, nor do most people want to pay for single-user instances. I actually really hope revolver succeeds lol.
-
@dcc @Inginsub @cassidyclown @kirby Well the point is, most "normal" people would have walked away from hosting a site like KF, like GirlVinyl did with ED, or selling the site off like Moot and 4chan.
You also don't run a website like a social media network that doesn't turn a profit and can be a liability to host unless you have a motive for it.
Why do you think Jeff Bezos owns a newspaper?
