The Talmud says a lot of contradictory shit. The real problem with it, much like with the field of Constitutional law, is that it makes Jewish law contingent upon what some rabbi said centuries ago, whether or not it has any connection to the original text and plain meaning of the Torah. And the Talmud only even really applies to more orthodox Jews, reform Judaism throws out even pretending to give a shit about the law of Moses in favor of "Tikkun Olam" generic shitlib bullshit. Judaism in practice is divorced by millennia from "loving the Lord your God with all your strength." Long ago it abandoned the beautiful Judaism of David, the Judaism of the harp and the flocks, the Judaism in harmony with God and God's creation, to the point where such things aren't really seen as Jewish at all, so much has Jewish practice been consumed by Pharisaic legalism and urbanite decadence.

Notice that in all that pilpul, he doesn't bring up another Talmud passage that could exculpate the whole rabbinical tradition and substantiate his claims of the Talmud preaching "sanctity of life" and "only theoretical debates". He does not even bring up the Old Testament. :shrug_yui:

Good post!
I would not personally call what the Israelites worshiped, Judaism, as that gives credence to the false religion that started a century after Christ. Covenantly, you could consider Old Testament saints to be pre-Christ Christians. Historically, the Israelites could be said to follow Mosaic Yawehism.
