     @weaf Trump has promised to bring the parties to negotiations as soon as he is elected by threatening whoever is the reluctant party.
     
     Zelensky could be thinking of a swap of territory based on square kilometers to sound reasonable and thus is attacking sparsely populated and strategically irrelevant section of Russia to boost his numbers. Secondly by getting Russian to reject negotiations he believes Trump will take his side biggly.
