Currently migrating my #mntreform to the hardened #Gentoo profile.
Not going to do an empty-tree rebuild, that would take forever.
Rebuilding @system worked fine though. The OS can still boot and all appears to be well :)
Will try the hardened kernel tonight - wish me luck!
