States keep banning cheap, little Kei cars for fear they’re deathtraps
Limited in size and power, Kei cars are like fishes out of water on US roads.

@arstechnica and yet Side-by-sides and Motorcycles are allowed on public roads no problem. It's complete bullshit. My 1992 Subaru Sambar does 60mph no problem.
@arstechnica I live in Japan and have a small Kei Car (Mira) & a JDM Honda Odyssey - the Kei cars here are known to be less safe on the tollways, where there are much faster speeds (60-75mph) and much larger vehicles, filled with speeding vans and very large 4-axle logistic trucks - approaching American-style traffic.
I do not like taking it on the tollway, though there are plenty of people who do so regularly. Bad Accidents are fatal - like yesterday near my city:
@arstechnica They should ban the big honking SUVs and trucks instead
@arstechnica We need to have it the other way around. Ban gigantic freaking cars. I have a normal sized car and I can't see around these damn gigantic pickups and SUVs, and that's dangerous. No one needs a car that damn big. No one.
@arstechnica So smaller cars are unsafe due to the damage huge SUVs can do to them and the solution is that, instead of regulating the SUVs, to ban the small cars.
Logic has left the building.
@arstechnica But it's ok for motorcycles to share the road?
