Speaking of Saito, I had no idea until now that he actually designed Celica as she appeared in Fire Emblem Awakening's DLC (Awakening being my first Fire Emblem game, I had very little interest in FE series fanservice DLC).
This Celica is cute af, but very different from her later (also excellent) Shadows of Valentia design - and what really leaps out is that she must have been THE main inspiration for Pyra's design - seriously, she's literally wearing Pyra's famous booty shorts! Additionally, Pyra's tiara, fingerless gloves and fanservice armor also seem inspired by Awakening Celica.

@ChristiJunior @ArdainianRight @SerfnUSA You're absolutely right about Celica, I had completely forgotten he did that illustration.
I also strongly suspect that the guys at Monolith saw Rakuen Tsuihou, brought him on and said "do more of that"

@KoopaTV @ArdainianRight @ChristiJunior Hey they didn’t give us nothing, awakening officially confirmed that ike is not a homo, that was pretty darn cool
-
@KoopaTV @ChristiJunior @ArdainianRight I don’t blame anyone who waifus micaiah that doesn’t like the design, she’s not a remotely erotic character in radiant dawn, so it’s a little incongruous. Maybe I’m just a hornier guy but I wouldn’t get bothered by a single out of character cheesecake art in something as inconsequential as awakening dlc.
-
@SerfnUSA @ChristiJunior @ArdainianRight I'm fine right now (though not with that art), but at the time of Awakening's release when we had Micaiah looking like that and Sword-Arm Ike, it was a really dark time for Tellius fans.
Awakening was being heralded as the saviour of the franchise and Path of Radiance/Radiant Dawn were being vilified as awful franchise-destroyers, and then this artwork comes out and there's just nothing going right.
-
@SerfnUSA @ArdainianRight I'm sure @KoopaTV would agree :)
-
@ChristiJunior @SerfnUSA @ArdainianRight Agree that Micaiah should've been a Cleric in Awakening. I didn't like her artwork in Awakening.
-
@SerfnUSA @ArdainianRight So the anti-fanservice fags were really just mad about the devs not going out of their way to censor Micaiah's mage outfit, huh? :sip:
-
@ChristiJunior @ArdainianRight In all fairness dark mage is a slightly weird choice for her. She’s a light mage/healer im her original game, and with no light mage class and no light magic in awakening that would leave cleric as the obvious choice, which would not have lent itself to a sexy design if they stuck to being a variation of that class design. So rather than “why didn’t you break your own rules to make this less sexy?” The argument is more like “why did you put her in the sexy class when a non-sexualized class made more sense?” Which is admittedly a better point, but it’s still not as good as my counterpoint: Micaiah is sexy and I’ve wanted to impregnate her since I was a preteen.

@ChristiJunior @ArdainianRight Awakening micaiah for reference
-
@SerfnUSA @ArdainianRight Isn't that just the regular Dark Mage outfit in Awakening? I recall Tharja not actually having a monopoly on that look.
-
@ChristiJunior @ArdainianRight Correct, they pretty closely stick to the class designs for everyone, main game and dlc. Celicas is a modified version of the sage outfit.
-
@ChristiJunior @ArdainianRight Oh yes I remember Awakening celica very well. The usual suspects were mad about her getting sexed up…for about a week when Awakening Micaiah’s sexpot design was revealed and drew all their ire for the rest of the prerelease. I always liked it, it’s not necessarily the best fit for the character but it’s one of the only attempts to make something sexy from the somewhat silly class designs in awakening (other than peg knights and dark mages of course). I didn’t notice she was proto pyra for like a year after Xenoblade 2 came out and felt pretty silly for not immediately making the connection 😂

@SerfnUSA @ArdainianRight @KoopaTV They did? Then how come the FE community keeps acting like Ike is either a suspected or confirmed faggot? I mean, I know *why* they do it, but how do they rationalize it?
