   Could you imagine the shitstorm if I defaced an equally sizable "approved" Mastodon instance?

   Did you know that the Mastodon upgrade instructions do not include updating ruby dependencies?

   Did you know Mastodon's ruby dependencies have dozens of CVEs in just the last year?

     I'm curious to know how they did it, I'm pretty paranoid about my servers but I know anyone is still hackable. My guess is chudbuds did something stupid like allow password login for ssh, no fail2ban or easy password admin account. Using a software vulnerability is a much more sophisticated attack that takes time to research. 🤷
