   When you compare longitudes it's surprising how tropical the USA is. People don't appreciate it in theory because they look level on the mercator, but when you see it everything makes sense: Why we have air conditioning as standard, why so much of the southwest is still so empty, why we don't know euro geography....it's a big country with a good climate variety

     It is worse because there is no giant inland sea to moderate temperatures. So you'll have landlocked midwestern states that get over 100 in the summer and below zero in the winter. Tremendous temperature variations.

     @WashedOutGundamPilot @mullvad What also isn’t apparent to Europeans is the topography of America. Outside of a handful of areas Europe has no equivalent of the Great Plains, and the tallest mountain ranges are to the west, which has its own effect on weather.
