Lots of similarities. I could definitely see nasty succession disputes, massive inflation, emboldened foreign adversaries chipping away at the outer spheres of influence, breakaway attempts, deterioration of global trade, and increased decentralization as the federal government becomes increasingly incapable of effective governance. Basically there were roughly 50 years of coups and counter-coups, and everything generally deteriorating and going to shit, before they eventually cobbled together a more functional system that hung around for almost another 200 years. Things might be more abbreviated in a more modern and technologically advanced world, but I'd still expect at least 20 or so years before we have a chance at seeing anything that vaguely resembles a functional society even on the level of the 1990s-2000s. So yes, we really are fucked. -

Given how we had Biden installed 4 years ago before Orange Faggot getting shot and Biden getting couped in favor of Kumala I don't think it's crazy to think we could slide down that path, especially considering how retarded everyone in leadership positions is. -
Anime Wong (elliptica@poa.st)'s status on Tuesday, 06-Aug-2024 14:45:48 JST Anime Wong @ArdainianRight @PraxisOfEvil A while back I read "Julian's Gods" which was about the pagan revival at the tail end of the Roman Empire. I walked away thinking that Julian the Apostate was very much a Trump-like, or maybe especially a Hitler-like figure. Men are nostalgic for a world that might never have existed, who sense a decline in their old values, and want to revive it, but ultimately fail.
This might be why conservatives almost always fail. When things that can't easily be unfucked get fucked, what exactly can you do? You have to rebuild it from scratch something that already died. It's necromancy.Ardainian Hebrew Israelite likes this. -

Learning lessons from history and past cultures is essential, but you can't ever re-create the past, you have to keep moving forward. But it's not always easy to tell what in your ideals are eternal and always applicable, as opposed to what was a product of its time and place, and can't be brought back. -

The best case scenario is federal collapse. Most states are a mess but the Federal Government is a total shitshow

That's not impossible, even with America as a cultural force being superpowered and overshadowing regional identities. During the period I was referencing, there were short-lived parts of the Empire that broke away, but didn't last. Modern America does have far greater mobility, and there could well be a considerable sorting in response to any split that might solidify divisions, or a breakaway could potentially be undone by a non-retarded leader capable of reasonably accommodating grievances. -

Have a Kaiser at the top who oversees multiple sovereign vassals. You have a supreme ruler to intervene when he needs to and local governments to run things 90% of the time.
