   @WhiteApe I think about how unlucky Gen Z and Gen Alpha were, at least my generation had happy memories of post Cold War prosperity in the 90s, everyone born after 1997 didn't get shit

     @WhiteApe Pretty much, but the reaction to Pearl Harbor lead to anime, the reaction to 9/11 lead us to grooming gangs and taking our shoes off at the airport

     @WhiteApe I was going to mention 9/11, it did shift the culture quite a bit, people felt patriotic again for the first time in years, there was a sense of community built around fear of terrorism, people were actually excited for the GWOT and, for a bit, America couldn't do any wrong, George W even threw a strike at an MLB game and had an approval rating above 90%. Hard to explain to anyone born after the Millenium.

     @WhiteApe It's interesting to me to see the Gen X reluctance to work some dull office job in the late 90s, plenty of shows and movies also had this theme in that era. Around the Millenium people thought there was going to be a real upheaval in society but it never really materialized. Now 25 years later everyone is still sick of working, only now we're stuck doing either bullshit makework jobs or busting our asses 60 hours a week. I would kill for a secure and good paying office job right now.
