     @nixCraft “Fun” fact: the “do not want” meme and line from Star War: The Third Gathers comes from [我]不要, which literally means “[I] do not want”. Because there’s no single word that means “yes” or “no” in Chinese (like there’s no word for “the” in Russian).

     Anyway, what the hell kind of “innovation” is subscription-based hardware?

     @nixCraft …umm…baloney. Number one; I’ve used/owned a metric ton of mice and it’s the buttons/cables/etc that wear and break…so ‘forever’ is a year or two and I’ll wager I won’t need a software update in that amount of time.
     Two, to do it where it is profitable it would have to be both cheap and basically ‘loaded’. Which would make it worth cracking to enable everything without paying.
     Three, if it requires a subscription to ‘use’ then their competitors will bury them.

     But, conditional on it being a software update? Plural, as in updateS? The mouse needs no software and no update. And if there is a marginal situation where it does, then that still doesn't explain the plural used. This is just another HP ink cartridge bullshitery
