LOL WHAT
-
@hermit Between that and being responsible for the creation of Ethereum, I'm not sure Activision will ever recover.
-
@hermit Yeah, they nerfed the damage on Warlocks Time Siphon which led to Vitalik Buterin discovering cryptocurrency
-
@netdoll Wait, they were responsible for that?
-
@hermit If Vitalik kept playing WoW, he wouldn't have found crypto when he did and consequently ETH wouldn't be a thing.
-
@netdoll Wait, what? how are those two things conflated? My crypto lore is very weak, I know just enough about Bitcoin and Monero to use it to buy things, that's all.
-
@hermit (mind you, this was when RT was starting to air their "Cyber Christ" propaganda w.r.t. Bitcoin)
-
@hermit Yeah, at least one of the pundits then presenting on RT did.
-
@netdoll LOL WHAT? They actually used that terminology?
-
@hermit RT was absolutely insane back then tbh, can't think of another state media mouthpiece that not only knew who Richard Stallman was but gave him a spotlight at prime hours to promote his ideology to the media watching public
-
@hermit Yeah pre-Crimea RT was absolutely bugfuck insane, then they just started parroting the party line of the culture wars and the "alt right" (with an occasional nod to dissenting figures like Slavoj Zizek) becoming cringe and utterly replaceable in the process.
-
@netdoll I wasn't paying attention to them, my CHUD HISTORY involved a stint in GamerGate and when I started seeing my fellows deferring to RT constantly and orbiting the likes of Milo Yiannopoulos I realised "IT'S OVER" and bailed. That's pretty fucking wild. I had no idea.
-
@hermit Certainly a lot better than platforming "principled" "leftist" (read: genocide denier) Noam Chomsky, I'll say that much.
-
@netdoll Zizek is an interesting character for sure. A lot of these Marx-y philosophers fill me with rage (fuck you Fisher) but he actually has some good shit to say.
-
@hermit Bosnian Genocide when it was ongoing and to the present, Cambodian genocide when it was ongoing, (redacted due to legal reasons), probably some others I'm forgetting
-
@netdoll I don't know a whole lot about Chomsky. What genocide did he deny?
-
@hermit He's Jewish, so he doesn't stoop *that* far. Of course, he still has very euphoric opinions on it and IIRC has buddied up with Finkelstein in the past over the issue.
-
@netdoll LOL he's a holocaust denier?
-
@hermit Finkelstein is treating the edge I think, whether his arguments have validity to them or not Holocaust deniers twist him beyond recognizition in support of their claims anyway. He also has the same brainworm Chomsky has where he's so blatantly anti-USA that he allows it to compromise his morality by siding with anyone who opposes them even if by all accounts the opposing party in question is objectively worse by orders of magnitude.
-
@netdoll From what little I know of Finkelstein, his allegations regarding the holocaust seem reasonable, citing mathematical evidence and clear examples of false testimony (e.g. "It was real in my mind.") If the excent of the holocaust IS exagerrated then it seems to me to have been a stupid move. A watertight historical argument for it having been a real (and horrific) event is very easy to make, and it would have left no "wiggle room" for holocaust denial.
Perhaps I'm wrong on Finkelstein though. My familiarity is only passing.
-
@netdoll Like, seriously, even if only 5 people had been rounded up and killed in the holocaust wouldn't that have been sufficient evidence for its horror? Selecting people based on apparent characteristics and just shoving them off to death camps? The fact that it WAS evidently MILLIONS of people makes it worse. But even if it was only 2 million, or 200,000, or whatever figure, isn't that fucking bad enough? Isn't that a good reason not to repeat it?
-
@netdoll That's a real fuckin feel and a trap I really need to make sure I don't fall into myself.
-
@hermit It's definitely an easy trap, I'll say that much.
-
@netdoll Yeah it is. Hatred takes over sometimes. "MILLIONS MUST DIE" is easy to embrace. I thought I was beyond it and then that FUCKING video where some communist latched onto Buddhist cognitions of Anatman and Pratītyasamutpāda in support of "Acid Communism" set me off.
It's all about calming down. Quoth Deus Ex: "You can't fight ideas with bullets."
