   It does kinda worry me that kids are now taking romantic cues from these. the japs move phenomenally slow in dating, or at least they do in their weebery. Holding hands with your crush is something you get excited over when you’re 12 and practicing square dancing, and the simplest thing in the world on a date once you’re old enough to do that.

   I don’t know if they’re genuinely that awkward or if they just have to pace themselves to not burn through too many milestones. I do worry that lots of these writers are near sexless weirdoes, though, and that’s why they can only write about the early, exciting, and relatively unfulfilling part of courtship early on. There aren’t that many works that really tackle the exciting and wonderful early years together when you’re both finding new fun, lovable things about each other.

     @Remi @WashedOutGundamPilot @professionalbigot69 Eventually Ill find out in person but the dating thing moves faster because most people still dont date "for fun". A lot of the times they're trying to look for a real partner

     @Pvt_Property @WashedOutGundamPilot @professionalbigot69 Yeah that's definitely true. I didn't see a lot of "for fun" dating among normal people, and the entire time I was there I only saw one couple split - and the woman in that example was a foreigner!
     
     It's something I really respected, that if you saw two people together there was a good chance they'd be married in a year or two.

     @Pvt_Property @WashedOutGundamPilot @professionalbigot69 Publicly, I've always heard 3 months minimum before sex will start in a relationship, but that's also coming from women who I guarantee would put out on the first date with some fuckboy with an undercut who looks like a Kpop star.
     
     Rather than everyone moving at the same speed, Japanese relationships actually seem to be one of two extremes. I've heard of people waiting until marriage, but I've also known women who use early sex to try and trap men into a relationship and simply move to their next target if it doesn't work. As for men, I've been told directly that if they're in it for marriage they don't mind waiting if the woman wants to, but if they don't want to marry then they're happy to just base the relationship on sex and nothing else. "Purity" definitely seems to have value for women and I know female virginity rates are relatively high, but I'm not sure how men are truly judged in this regard. I'm suspicious of the "herbivore male" phenomena even being a thing, and it instead just being an overblown media meme.
