@menherahair@ChurnHinge Looks like there’s a super reddit thread with people yelling at the guy who posted it. Happened a couple days ago, too. They made him go back and check on them & it was 19-22 cards and they all got crushed anyways
@WashedOutGundamPilot@ChurnHinge words cannot contain my anger concerning magic cards weird how I haven't seen a thread about being mad about magic cards on fedi yet I'd expect that
@professionalbigot69 I had no idea how many there were until I looked it up. It’s wild. Total fad, just like the rubes who thought beanie babies would bay for a new house in their retirement
If you want to look. From what I see it’s not a thriving collector scene. Everything is coming out too quickly, they’re flooded with new shit instead of good things. Classic hubris. Most of them are sub $20 and careen down to $5 not long after release. Even the “rare” ones are less than $400 - piddlywinks for a “collectible” that’s supposed to be gigantic like this. I don’t think there’s much demand.
@WashedOutGundamPilot they're not even cool. Like McFarlanes and buildable figures (both Japanese and Lego) are sick as hell so that's acceptable. with funkoshits, you're really paying for ugliness at a premium when most of the bugs buying these can just look outside their window for free
@WashedOutGundamPilot@professionalbigot69 Went to a hobby store, where they buy and sell old and new collectibles, and half the store was just Funko inventory space.
Never understood the attraction to a shitty dead faced vinyl figure.
@Twoinchdestroya@professionalbigot69 I love going to hobby stores when I can. It’s so interesting seeing how many are mid-shift from old boomer shit to weeb stuff. Seems pretty common to visit and talk shop w/ a dude in his 60’s who’s like “yeah man, everyone kept asking for gundamns and before you know it they’re 60% of our revenue. It’s crazy, we used to have those two aisles for comics, now it’s all japanese stuff.”
I honestly can’t remember seeing funkos anywhere but chains. Never seen a hobby shop w/ them. Closest thing is warhammer.
@WashedOutGundamPilot@professionalbigot69 it's genius because funkpops are so utterly bland and everything made into funkpops looks exactly the same it must be incredibly cheap for them to tool up to make a different characters or whatever. The collectors go insane buying 500$ worth every week, people not into them get drawn into them when their thing gets a funkpop. It's a bullshit collectors market too, so anybody trying to buy them secondhand is going to find a market with wildly inflated prices by collectors who don't want to sell for under retail because it's rare or limited edition or some bullshit.
@WashedOutGundamPilot@ChurnHinge can't even blame them. magic cards are fucked, most of the new ones will be 1 penny each if you even manage to pawn them, and then there's some 200 bucks ones, but only for few month, after which they ban them off the landscape and they get worthless or unsellable because only like 7 guys need them. don't get into cardboard crack guys
