The general feeling I get is that people actually doesn't care about AI, doesn't care about privacy, and will make a Microsoft account if required. They want something that works and they don't want to have to worry about technical stuff at all. In fact if I have to guess, they use a computer because they are forced to and not because they want to. If they want to browse the internet or do anything, they'll use their phone.
Microsoft knows this and they are taking actions knowing that no matter what they do, they will win. And yes, you see a lot of people now making videos and rising awareness in social media, but the reality is this people represents only a 1 or 2% of the market share, at most. The rest don't care.
Also from that 1 or 2%, some will try to switch to Linux, but the majority will go back to Windows as soon as they face any technical issue that can't be solved within 5 minutes at best.
No, it's not the year of the Linux desktop. And it will never be. But you know what? That's ok. We don't need Linux to rule the average consumer market.
