It did, in the north. But think about the timing. Their only major sources of equipment and funding were the socialist bloc and arab revolutionaries. Almost every nationalist movement here got communised and jewed. There was no concept of "individual right to bear arms," it was all about building a socialist movement. The moment arms were no longer required they disarmed and that was that.
In the south the government responded to the civil war by killing off almost all private gun ownership. It didn't work and CnaG still lost, but when they took over FF never reversed the decision. People were too war weary to resist and we didn't have much of a gun culture to begin with so we accepted disarmament.
Even today half the nationalists here have swallowed the kool-aid and think we need to have gun control because "otherwise we'll be like america and there'll be school shootings all the time."
