Amaze seems have been doing the job pretty well for me, so for now I stick with it. I truly miss ES File Explorer back before they sold out though. Guess that's a good reminder of why true FOSS is always better than just free since they can sell out and become horrible without warning.

I did switch from Simple Gallery to Fossify Gallery though, which Fossify Gallery is forked from, because Simple Gallery began to show ads after not ever having them previously. Even on F-Droid, it was replaced with Simple Gallery Pro, which would eventually bug you to pay for premium to continue using it. Fossify has most of Simples pro features baked in by default.
